Why PhocaX exists
Built from seeing both sides of outsourced science.
PhocaX was founded to make the path between capable scientific providers and the teams that need their work easier to understand, evaluate, and move forward.

The founder story
A market gap seen from two directions.
Undergraduate experienceCapable CROs can be difficult for likely-fit buyers to find.
As an undergraduate, founder Joshua Hedde worked with a small startup CRO and saw how difficult it can be for capable scientific teams to reach likely-fit clients. Emerging CROs may have the technical skill to perform valuable work, but not yet the commercial infrastructure, visibility, or buyer-access systems of larger organizations.
Graduate researchChoosing a reliable CRO can be just as difficult.
Now, as a graduate researcher, Joshua sees the other side: scientists and lean biotech teams trying to identify reliable CROs, understand what each vendor can truly deliver, compare proposals built on different assumptions, and choose a path without wasting time or introducing avoidable risk.
PhocaX todayMake the decision clearer without taking authority away from the client.
PhocaX structures requirements, identifies likely-fit vendors, normalizes responses, preserves open questions, and prepares owner-ready decision materials. For CROs and research vendors, PhocaX can also help clarify where their capabilities genuinely fit and how to communicate the evidence buyers need—without manufacturing claims or creating pay-to-play recommendations.
Operating principle
Clarity only works when incentives are visible.
When PhocaX works buyer-side, the client's criteria and decision authority come first. PhocaX does not accept vendor referral fees during buyer-side engagements. Any potential commercial conflict must be disclosed and separated. Scientific, quality, procurement, regulatory, legal, qualification, and final vendor decisions remain with the client and qualified reviewers.
Long-term ambition
Earn toward an AI-enabled biological therapeutics company.
PhocaX's long-term ambition is to use disciplined science, responsible AI, and strong operating systems to support the development and management of biological therapeutic programs of its own. That is a future direction—not a claim that PhocaX currently has a therapeutic pipeline. The company is earning toward that ambition by solving a real scientific operating problem today.
